The timeless city of Paris, France is a common must-visit destination for world travelers. Packed with iconic landmarks, romantic ambiance and historic architecture, the experiences are endless. Famously known as the City of Light, Paris is brilliantly illuminated and continues to serve as a beacon of ideas, culture and progress across Europe.

Things To Do

Watch Paris Sparkle Under the Eiffel Tower

Standing as the centerpiece of France’s capital city, the Eiffel Tower was constructed for the 1889 World’s Fair to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. The 1,083 ft beacon of beauty is the most-visited ticketed monument in the world with seven million visitors annually. Take in its beauty from below or ride the lift to the top and ascend into a panoramic view of Paris. At nightfall, witness the sparkle of its 20,000 dazzling lights every hour. Ticket prices range based on floor access. Reserved tickets are highly recommended, especially during peak season.

Enjoy A Cabaret Show at the Moulin Rouge

The legendary cabaret, Moulin Rouge, brings authentic Parisian entertainment to life. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show as sequins, rhinestones and feathers flood the stage. A group of 60 technically trained artists immerse the audience in a captivating burlesque production lasting 1 hour and 45 minutes. The luxurious nightclub originated in 1889 and is the present-day home of the showcase: Féerie. This must-see performance begins around $115 (€100) with prices varying by date and time. Reservations must be booked in advance, as the show will sell out quickly. Dress to impress and prepare to be dazzled by the ambiance and extravagance of the Moulin Rouge.

Discover Centuries of Art at The Louvre

Located inside a former royal fortress, the world’s largest art museum is home to over 35,000 pieces spanning 10,000 years of history. Spend the day wandering through five levels of exhibits or pass through the Danon wing for a shorter experience that features the most famous attractions, including Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Tickets are $37 (€32) and booking in advance is highly recommended.

See the heart of Paris from a double decker boat offering both temperature controlled and open-air seating. Sightseeing tickets are $22 (€19) and are valid for any embarkation up to one year after purchase. I’d recommend a sunset departure to catch an up-close show of the sparkling Eiffel Tower.

Ascend to the Top of Arc de Triomphe

Built to honor the victories of Napoleon I and the French army, the first stone of Arc de Triomphe was laid on August 15, 1806. Surrounded by a massive 12-lane traffic circle known as the Place Charles de Gaulle, the 164 ft limestone structure is only accessible by pedestrian underpass. The legendary opera house, Palais Garnier, opened its doors in 1875. Its famous features include the Grand Marble Staircase, a crystal chandelier and a jaw-dropping ceiling mural painted by Marc Chagall. This world-famous venue served as inspiration for the haunting love story Phantom of the Opera. Take a self-guided tour for $30 (€25) and wander through lavish corridors and overlook gilded balconies. For a more in-depth experience, grab tickets to the ballet, an opera performance or a concert.

Il Sorrentino is a little bit of Italy in the heart of Paris. Nestled at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, this fine dining experience offers authentic Italian dishes with quality ingredients. The highly-attentive staff provide detailed recommendations tailored to each diner’s preferences. I’d recommend the Tagliolini ai formaggi, a ribbon pasta flambeed in a giant cheese wheel.

Transportation

Paris offers an efficient public transportation system (RATP) comprised of the metro, buses, tramways and parts of the RER commuter train. Depending on the length of your stay, there are a variety of pass options available to best suit your needs. Travelers can purchase a physical Navigo card from a kiosk at any station, or add a mobile version to their smartphone’s digital wallet.

For longer trips, I’d recommend the Paris-Visit Pass. It offers 1-5 days of unlimited transportation throughout the city, including routes to and from Charles de Gaulle Airport. Take into consideration the day you are arriving, as the Navigo weekly pass may also be a great option.
