Luxembourg Luxury

This morning we took a 3.5 hour train from Brussels to Luxembourg. Located between France, Belgium and Germany, this tiny country is about the size of the US state of Rhode Island! After checking into our hotel we had lunch at QoSQo where we enjoyed gourmet quesadillas. Our first attraction was Grand Ducal Palace, home of the Grand Duke. Around the corner was Notre Dame Cathedral. The chiming of its bell could be heard throughout the entire city.

80° and nothing but sunshine called for a walk through Vallée de la Pétrusse (the park). We quickly realized that walking down 100 stairs into the beautiful green valley meant that we’d eventually have to climb back up them.. oops!

We crossed Adolph’s Bridge for a panoramic view of the city and its luscious scenery. The heat was no match for us as we found ice cream to keep us cool!

Next on our march around the city was the Bock Casemates. Beginning in 1644, these complex underground tunnels continued to be used as bomb shelters during WWII. Although tours are temporarily closed, we were able to wander around on top of them to get more spectacular views of the city.

Chemin de la Corniche is said to be “the most beautiful balcony in Europe.” As you can see, it did not disappoint!

Across the city we could see Fort Obergrünewald. Thinking it didn’t look too far, we decided to make the hike – literally. Gasping for breaths, sweating and out of water we made it to the fort. Underwhelmed and defeated, it was time to grab dinner and return to the hotel.
